Guard your Heart

Part of life involves certain side attractions that have been responsible for the outcome of our lives. Thoughts, emotions and actions guides the life of individuals amongst other things. This is why we must be cautious of what we say and how we react to negative situation around you. Take note:- Every negative situation has the main aim of bringing things like sorrow, anger or bitterness but you must make a decision not to be a victim of the evil happenings around you.

Have you ever asked yourself this “has all my anger, disappointment or bitterness brought me good fortunes or changed the present situation?” If your answer is No, then stop causing yourself more pain but instead channel your energy to locate a way out.

The following will help in building yourself for productivity in the midst of pains.

  1. Beware of Offense

This talks about keeping record of wrong deeds to you. When offense isn’t handled well it will lead to anger and then unforgiveness.

Acts 24:16– “And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men”.

It is not easy to forgive especially when it’s someone of close ties with us like brother, father or family members. We must forgive and learn to manage the short comings of others because one thing I have told myself and a few others is people are not and would never be perfect. Managing expectations simply prevents you from hurting yourself with offense that pops up in your day to day life from people around you.

  1. Beware of Anger

Anger = Danger

If you will be honest with yourself, when you are angry there is a very low productivity level attached to all your efforts. Ecclesiastes 7:6b. Anger has the capacity to damage the body so be careful. Proverbs 17:22– “A merry heart doeth good like medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones”. When I was much younger, I used to be very hot tempered and I discovered that it was never brought me any good fortunes but instead it brought actions that I always regret. So I came across a scripture while I was tired of being hot tempered Eccl 7:9- “Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools”. I hate when someone calls me a fool so I told myself that according to God’s word I’m a fool if I continue the way I was. At this point, I knew that only me could help myself so I created a formula that would help from being hot tempered:

            Firstly, when someone is getting on my nerves I start smiling.

            Then ill pray out silently saying “Lord, help me not to be upset

            Finally I’ll tell the person I have forgiven you already.

Honestly, this has worked so well for me because my anger level reduced over a period of time till a point where it has become advanced forgiveness.

Finally, one thing to note is that people will always upset you but your reaction to their short comings doesn’t always have to stir up anger or be aggressive or lead to malice. It is not wrong to be offended but to remain angry is very wrong because anger will always lead to evil outcomes.

Try this and you will feel better.

  2. Very well said Daniel, this blessed my life particularly this text: Eccl 7:9- “Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools”.
    Thank you so much.

  3. Anger is a thief. It is a spirit . It tends to possess your vessel just when a blessing you’ve been waiting for all along was just about to feel you up. We should not just discipline ourselves to do nothing when angry but we should always pray against that spirit because it not just steals from you but it also leaves you with regrets and missed opportunities. 2. Always Observe your quiet time meditating ; let God reveal to you how to handle every expected and unexpected situation. Thanks for this forum Daniel. Bless.
