The Concept of Master and Servant

My wonderful friend, it’s been a while since I made a post and it has been because of several things. If you have been tracking me on social media, I’m sure you would understand but for the benefit of my new readers, I got married 😁☺️. A few people sent me private messages saying they can’t wait to read my write up as a married man. The concept of the master-servant relationship is very apt so follow me closely as I share a few things.

Everyone is wise in their own eyes. A statement of pride that has robbed several people of greatness. I heard once that when you stop learning, you start dying. I agree because your quality of information slowly becomes outdated and reduced in relevance. Therefore I urge you to keep learning because in it is your greatness no matter who you are or the level you find yourself.

It is true that you are responsible for the outcome of your life but the involvement of leaders is essential to adequate and constant nutrition as you journey to greatness. It is important to locate such shepherds because they will ensure your nourishment and protection in your journey of life.

Jeremiah 3:15

And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

My wonderful friend I urge you to be careful from where and who is feeding you with knowledge and understanding. Counsel and guidance are important but being led by the wrong person or group of people can corrupt your glorious destiny.
The term Shepherd simply refers to a person responsible for the wellbeing, progress and advancement of the sheep or followers. Likewise, as a master, it is your sole responsibility to develop your followers and give them a good reason to stay under your leadership. Someone might ask, “why is it my responsibility to develop my followers?” The reason is simply because the people you develop and upskill have the potential of replicating after your kind. Have you ever asked your parents for their most important prayer for you as their child? Their major prayer point is that their children will be greater and even do better than they have done.

As a leader, it is your responsibility to nurture and develop your followers so that they can attain their life goals and aspirations. I urge you to please pay attention to your followers, know their areas of excellence and improvement and help them achieve more. The reason you are privileged to have a follower is because you have something that can make life better. Personally, I find utmost joy and fulfilment when a person is better off than when he/she first met me. Also, your unique experience is for the benefit of certain followers. I, therefore, urge you reading this, please beware of how you manage setbacks in the presence of your followers.

As a follower or an aspiring leader, I urge you to remain diligent in learning in growing because, in that process, you learn loads of lessons and gain mastery of what it takes to be a better master. There is a blessing in stewardship especially when it’s with excitement and without envy or pride. The desire to make improvements is a very potent reason for the quest for leadership. That’s fantastic but you must be willing to learn with humility and diligence when you find the leader that suits you. Beware of pride because you might need to follow someone that is your age mate or even younger than you.

A strong desire for development in certain areas of life is mostly a reason for locating a leader. I once followed hard someone that was my age mate but I didn’t regard him like that because I was hungry for personal development and growth.

Proverbs 9:9
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

I must remind you that you are a product of contribution and impact from someone or a group of people. Teaching yourself will take a long time because you will have to learn through experiences that are both negative and positive. In most cases, it takes a long time to come up with the proper direction.

Finally, To the shepherds, a word of caution, if you are not the helpline to your followers, your leadership assignment isn’t complete. To the follower, If you live your life the way you like, you will come in contact with things you don’t like. Stay disciplined and keep learning to continuously become better.

  1. Interesting to know that even a follower has responsibilities to play in other to benefit greatly from the leadership of the shepherd.

My take home is this: “Pay attention to your followers, know their areas of excellence and improvement and help them achieve more”.

These words spoke to me directly because of the leadership Position I am privileged to be in. I’ll work on this consistently.
