Beware of Reputation!

Following the post on leadership and Influence, this is the best concept for a follow up and a wake up call.

This week, I’ll be letting you in on something only very few people (family of course 🤪) have and know about. So if you are reading this, you are entering that circle already. This particular post is not actually mine but the idea and concept of it can’t allow me to read it alone. The write up was done by Bishop David Abioye and I’m sure when you read it, you will be blown away by the depth as well as simplicity in which the topic has been explained

• The greatest enemy of character is not its direct opposite called evil but its subtle neighbor and false image called Reputation which feigns itself under mask
• Its strength does not go beyond the surface
• Unlike character which has its root in the heart and naturally reflects on the outside as it cannot be cowed or subdued by any level of evil
• Reputation will dance to external and opposing forces in a bid to find balance between what is right and wrong, character does not make explanation nor seek to be understood
• Whereas reputation enjoys commendation of people, character only seeks divine approval
• Reputation says, “What do people say of me?” But character says, “What does God testify of me?”
• Character has a strong crave to please God but reputation displays shallow and sentimental drive to impress people
• Reputation goes around to cover up things but character is absolutely naked and careless about people’s discovery.
• Reputation thrives on falsehood, makeup and shadow but character stands by originality and truth.
• Reputation lives in fear but character has nothing to fear
• Reputation keeps looking at the back but character maintains focus always
• It is better for one to loose reputation before men than to destroy his character before God. 
• Men may know you for your reputation but God knows you for your character.
• Character is constant and statute but reputation is variable and can bend and blend
• Reputation hides some sides of life but character displays all sides.
• Reputation seeks momentary gratification but character waits for justification no matter how long it takes to come – Gen. 30:33

Philippians 2:7-9
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name.


A servanthood mentality in your leadership and influence journey will always cause you to be of great reputation.
